"Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow,
Praise Him all Creatures here below,
Praise Him above ye Heavenly Host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." Doxology
We have so much to be thankful for. Sometimes I forget, and mumble and complain. God has so blessed me that I should give thanks every moment of every day.
"I got nothing I asked for,
but everything I hoped for.
Almost in spite of myself,
My half-uttered prayers were answered.
I am, among all women, most richly Blessed." Annonymous, my paraphrase
Thanksgiving Day is my favorite holiday. It isn't as commercial as Christmas can sometimes be, it comes at the BEST time of the year, and it is dedicated to simply giving thanks. (Yes, I know, a lot of us over eat, and call it turkey day; but in my family it is a day to get relatives and friends together for the meal, to talk and have fun, and to give thanks.)
"Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Amen
Psalm 107:1 (NIV)
I give thanks for my husband and sons, for the rest of our families, for our house, for our car, for the town in which we
live, for the beautiful leaves, the clear air. I give thanks for the little cat with which we were unexpectedly gifted, and whom I would NOT part with, now, for anything.
"Give Thanks to the Lord
for He is good.
His love endures forever."
I would stake all that I have and all that I ever hope to have on that, on the fact that God is good.
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.
'Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear,
and Grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear,
the hour I first believed."
Song- Amazing Grace
I've been Christian a long time, but I remember the "hour I first believed". Some people had come to our church, talking about God as if they really KNEW Him. It sounded good, and I prayed as they directed, and I went to bed. And when I woke up, lo and behold, I was aware of God's presence. I don't know any other way to put it. The best analogy I've heard is that of a radio which had been getting only static tuned so that now it was receiving music. Over night the Holy Spirit "tuned my radio". It was amazing, and wonderful, and totally unexpected.
